HOP For The Holidays – Staying Safe At Home Over The Holiday Vacation
Oh, hi, I didn’t see you there! But I’m glad you’re here. I wanted to take a moment to tell you, don’t let an incident ruin your vacation. Did you know in the US and Canada, far more people get hurt at home than at work, especially during the holidays? Sometimes we do things that we think are routine or easy that maybe we don’t do a lot like climbing a ladder to put up lights, or even doing things that may overexert or overextend us. Improper disposal or recycling of holiday waste can present safety and environmental hazards. I know all we want is a successful outcome for us and our families to enjoy the holidays, but sometimes the stress can be overwhelming! Take some time to think before taking on a task: what could go wrong, and what’s the worst thing that could happen? Make some mental and physical preparations for these bad outcomes before you start work. Take the time to prepare before the task to make sure you have the right tools for the task and that you know how to use them safely. Use what you’ve learned at work about personal protective equipment to protect yourself and your family at home. Together we can make this the safe–safe– safey-est holiday since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny Kaye! I’d like to give special thanks to the folks at Christmas Vacation for making this the safer holiday season for all of us. From our family to yours, have a safe and joyous holiday season.
